Question:
I have just recorded class sessions using a hardware DVD recorder and want to bring DVD for ripping to iPod format for posting on the Web. I'm using Handbrake to accomplish this, and it is working wonderfully.

Now, my problem...
Occasionally, they have flubs that they want edited out of the file before it is posted. So, I thought I could take the file from the DVD into Final Cut Pro, edit it, and then put it out on the Web. So, I used Handbrake to take the audio and video from the DVD in the highest quality format it offers (Apple TV, I think) and saved the file to my hard drive. But when I try to import the video file into Final Cut Pro, I get an error message saying it cannot read the file. My dvd disc records movie as VOB files

So, my question is this...is there a program I can use to get the DVD or VOB audio/video in a file format that I can use in Final Cut Pro? And, since I work at a school, is there a effective solution that I can use to accomplish this?

Well, You were on the right track with Handbrake. My next suggestion would be to get one powerful video conversion programme to convert it to a DV stream like you were trying to do with Quicktime.
